Summer Adventures: Fishing!

In an effort to get outdoors more and try some new things, we decided to our hand at fishing! I have gone fishing as a kid plenty of times, Luis too, but we’ve never really taken the kids. We have wanted to take them for a while but always felt a little intimidated.

My cousin is an awesome fisherman, has a few boats, and knows the ins and outs of the area. With a few things given to us by him, a trip to Walmart for some more supplies, and armed with a loaf of bread, we went fishing! We started just behind our property in the canal.

In a nutshell, most of the time we ended up untangling the kids’ fishing lines, unhooking their hooks from the rocks, and giving them more bait. When it seemed like nothing was really going to happen Luis caught a fish! Then he got another one!

No one else caught anything but we all had a pretty great time. The bugs weren’t bad and it wasn’t too hot. We know a little bit more about fishing (i.e.- how to attach a hook, weight, and bobber) so on the next go around we will know what to expect.

It would be so nice to be able to fish at a lake where we could also swim. Jumping in the cool water would have been soo nice. One day!
